Our client a leading Cloud Hosting provider based in Hertfordshire are rapidly growing and looking for experienced Cloud Support Engineers to join their Operational team. You will work alongside VCP certified Engineers supporting a variety of clients managed cloud services hosted in data centres across the South East. This client is a big believer in personal development for their Engineers, you will get relevant courses fully paid for e.g. VCP or JNCIA.

The Job

  • You will work 3 days in the week and 2 days on the weekend with a financial uplift
  • Our client is looking for both 1st and 2nd line Cloud Engineers
  • The Cloud Engineers have overall responsibility for the delivery of technical projects, including delivery of new technical services and provisioning of customer services.
  • You will also take an active role in delivery of the Service Desk where customers interact by phone, email and a web portal.
  • This person is also an escalation point for technical issues arising from the 24/7 service desk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and participate in problem management at 2nd/3rd line escalation.
  • Be an authority for the change management process.
  • Engage with 3rd party support suppliers to ensure OLA's that underpin customer SLA's are maintained.
  • Ensure customer technical documentation is maintained.
  • Manage scheduled maintenance tasks.
  • Manage technical risks to customer platforms.
  • Involvement in the planning and provisioning of new services.
  • Prepare & present migration plans to senior staff
  • Ensure the systems are running at peak performance levels and are maintaining a high level of availability.

Key Skills

  • Experience supporting Microsoft Server or Linux OS
  • Proven track record in delivering IT solutions within a Managed Service environment
  • Experience delivering and building virtualised platforms
  • Experience supporting shared storage infrastructure
  • Experience with scripting languages (PowerShell, Perl, PHP, VBScript etc.)
  • Experience supporting backup technologies
  • Experience working with ITIL based service desk

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with vCloud Director & vSphere
  • VMware Certified
  • Experience supporting databases (MS SQL server, MySQL, Oracle or other)
  • Understanding of DoS/DDoS attacks and mitigation techniques
  • Experience of supporting an enterprise monitoring and alerting platform

They're looking for an experienced infrastructure engineer with an in depth understanding of cloud services, mainly AWS. This opportunity will require and allow you to utilise your experience with overseeing infrastructure hosted by VMware, AWS and additional cloud platforms. The successful candidate will play a pivotal part in the adoption and transformation to the cloud, whilst supporting the migration to virtual machine in VSphere to AWS or additional cloud platforms. The versatility in this role will require experience working with project teams delivering engineering and operational support.

Required Knowledge and skills:

  • Technical expertise in VMWare vSphere 6.x

Job Description

  • Proactively identify and resolve potential problems in an effort to prevent them from occurring and improve the overall customer experience.
  • Approach each case with a goal of ensuring products are performing at an optimal level by addressing any underlying or additional problems uncovered during each customer engagement.
  • Diagnose reported problems or configuration issues and recommend possible solutions and drive resolutions through to completion
  • Research and duplicate difficult configuration, compatibility or product-defect issues and track results of investigations in appropriate systems
  • Escalate to appropriate Product Development Team if no resolution can be found, or for bugs or customized solutions
  • Constantly seeks to review and learn from each closed Engineering escalation, seeking to eliminate non-code escalations to Engineering
  • Interact with Sales, Engineering and Product Management and participate in bug scrubs and project meetings to coordinate resolutions to customer-specific product issues and overall technical support trends
  • Works with Quality Assurance teams to provide real world feedback and identify product bugs
  • Provide technical reviews of user documentation, product requirements documents and functional specifications
  • Review and provide input to Engineering TOIs that can lead to customer centric and troubleshooting oriented use cases and not just product feature set
  • Actively contribute to critical escalation resolution plans, validating next steps and solutions.

Required Skills and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

    • Advanced skills in design, configuration and troubleshooting of Linux server operating systems (RedHat, CentOS or similar UNIX flavours such as Solaris) and

    • Extensive experience with the design, configuration and troubleshooting of common MTAs such as Sendmail, Qmail, Postfix and common Email Server Applications such as Exchange, Lotus Notes
    • In-depth understanding of common anti-spoofing techniques such SPF, DKIM, DMARC
    • Experience in MSSQL Server, Oracle, DB2 or other database
    • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Bash/Shell
    • Experience in the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of Active Directory or other directory services such as OpenLDAP, Novell eDirectory, Sun One or iPlanet
    • Advanced experience in Network principles, including experience with Routers, Switches, and/or Firewalls as well as advanced experience with routing protocols, IP addressing (Subnetting) and general LAN/WAN principles including TCP/IP, DNS/DHCP,
    • Advanced experience with SSL/TLS protocols (Structure, certificates, initial handshake, etc.) and email encryption methods and applications.
